The Maintenance Mechanic (Millwright) is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical equipment and systems used in a battery recycling environment. This role ensures safe, reliable, and efficient operation of production machinery, material handling systems, and facility infrastructure while adhering to environmental, health, and safety regulations.
The Role:
- Responsible for the daily, weekly, monthly, bi-annual, and annual preventative maintenance activities on all plant equipment
- Maintain and repair industrial machinery and mechanical equipment, i.e. pumps, conveyor belts, shredders, piping, platework, tanks, agitators, compressors, pneumatics, hydraulics
- Timely repair of equipment in any breakdown condition to preserve the integrity of the production planning process and minimize downtime
- Diagnose equipment malfunctions and implement timely repairs to reduce downtime
- Machining, welding, and fabrication using welding equipment, hand, and power tools
- Maintain and update the preventative maintenance records
- Maintain, identify, and update critical parts inventory
- Read and interpret schematics, manuals, and technical drawings
- Contacting, coordinating with, and supporting outside contractors to ensure timely repairs, special PM activities, modify existing equipment or commissioning new equipment
- Perform and maintain general building maintenance
- Working accurately with numbers, and on occasion doing basic drawings of machine parts
- Supporting Plant Manager with special projects and fabrication activities (new equipment installs, equipment upgrades, process modifications, jigs, fixtures, and other projects) as required
- Follow strict safety procedures, including:
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Hot work permits
- Fire prevention and emergency response protocols
- Procedures for handling energized or damaged lithium-ion batteries
- Organization and upkeep of maintenance and tool area
- Working independently and with others to solve mechanical and technical problems
- Contribute toward improving the maintenance system and associated procedures
- Open and clear communication with management on issues, challenges and critical matters related to maintenance, tooling, or special projects
Physical and Environment Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, kneel, bend, and stand for extended periods
- Ability to work in industrial environments with noise, dust, heat, and chemical exposure
- Must wear required PPE, including flame-resistant clothing, respirators, and protective equipment

Qualifications and Experience:
- A minimum of 3 years millwright experience
- High school education with a valid Millwright License
- Dual-ticket Millwright/Electrician (preferred)
- Experience in an industrial processing plant
- PLC controls and preventative maintenance systems knowledge
- Basic Computer Skills
- CWB Certification
Schedule:
- 8-hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Overtime and weekends required during breakdowns
- On call
