Privacy Policy

The short version

StartupsNorth is a job board. You can search and read every posting without giving us anything. The only personal information we ask for is an email address, and only if you want job alerts or manage a fund's page. We don't sell it, we don't share it for anyone else's marketing, and you can have it deleted at any time by clicking unsubscribe or emailing us.

What we collect

If you subscribe to job alerts: your email address, the filters you chose (such as a city, a company, or an experience level), how often you want to hear from us, and the dates you subscribed, confirmed and were last emailed. We keep this so we know what to send you and when.

If you manage a fund's page: your work email address, which funds you've claimed, and when you signed in, so we can let you edit your fund's page and confirm you work there. We email you sign-in links and updates about your page, nothing else.

If you submit a company: the company name and careers page URL you enter, so we can review it and add it to the board.

Everyone else: usage analytics, described below. We don't ask you to create an account to browse, we don't know who you are, and we don't track you across other websites.

Job listings are public information

Job postings on this site are collected automatically from the public careers pages and applicant tracking systems that companies publish themselves. They are not submitted by candidates and contain no personal information about job seekers. When you apply, you do it on the company's own site — your application never passes through us.

Cookies and analytics

We don't use advertising cookies. If you sign in to manage a fund's page, or log in to the admin area, a session cookie is set so you stay signed in; that's required for the site to work.

We use a product analytics service to understand how the site is used: which pages are visited, which searches and filters people use, which jobs get clicked through to apply, which links out to companies are followed, which pages get shared, where visitors come from, and their browser, device and approximate location (derived from IP address). It sets a cookie holding a random identifier so we can tell a returning visit from a new one. It isn't linked to your name or email, isn't shared with advertisers, and isn't used to follow you to other websites. We don't record your screen or keystrokes.

Links from our site to a company's website, careers page or job application carry a tag in the address (utm_source=startupsnorth) so the company can see the visit came from us. It identifies our site, not you.

You can block or delete this cookie in your browser settings, or use a content blocker; the site works the same either way.

Who else sees your data

Only the services needed to run the site: a hosting provider, a database provider, an email provider that delivers our emails, and an analytics provider. They process the data on our behalf and cannot use it for their own purposes. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers or recruiters.

How long we keep it

Your alert subscription is kept until you unsubscribe. Unconfirmed subscriptions — where the confirmation link was never clicked — are of no use to anyone and can be removed on request. Once you unsubscribe we stop emailing you immediately, and you can ask us to erase the record entirely. A fund account is kept while you manage a fund's page; email us and we'll delete it.

Your choices

Every alert email has an unsubscribe link that works without logging in or replying. You can also manage or delete your alerts from the alerts page.

Under Canadian privacy law you can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, and ask us to delete it. Email privacy@startupsnorth.ca and we'll action it.

Consent

Alerts are opt-in twice over: you enter your address, then confirm it by clicking a link we email you. We don't add anyone to a list they didn't ask for, and we only send the alerts you subscribed to.
